This program is for students who desire training that satisfies state requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA), Head Start programs, daycare centers, home daycare and related areas. This program leads into MCC’s Early Childhood Education, A.A.S. program and transfers to some four-year universities. Students interested in transferring to a four-year institution are encouraged to consult an MCC counselor or academic advisor.

Why This Degree

The certificate program in Early Childhood Development prepares students to be child care professionals in a licensed child care center where they are expected to organize and lead activities for young children. Entry-level positions may include child care workers and public school teaching assistants, earning an annual average wage of $36,640 to $68,620 per year, respectively. This degree also provides the foundation for continued study at the associate-degree level landing a job as a preschool teacher earning $33,570 per year.
