This program prepares students to work as commercial artists, or start their own businesses as freelance commercial artists. Students will gain real-world experiences creating scenes, photographing products & architecture, manipulating images in design software and branding.  Upon successful completion of this program, each student will have created a professional portfolio and a business plan.  Students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution are encouraged to consult an MCC counselor or academic advisor.

Why This Degree

Students who earn an associate of applied science degree will be prepared with the background and skills necessary for work as a commercial artist or to operate their own design business. This degree can lay the foundation for continued study at the bachelor’s degree level, landing a job as a graphic designer earning $34,100 to $94,700 per year.
